SCHOOL HISTORY

Picture
AMLAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL - JUGNO CAMPUS is a four year old public high school institution which is strategically located at Barangay Basiao Jugno, Amlan, Negros Oriental. In terms of land area the barangay have 353 hectares. Originally, Jugno was said to have gotten its name from trees which are used for medicinal purposes and whose fruits are edible. The fruits grow in bunches, and when these fruits ripen, they fall as hunches to the ground causing aloud fall, thus the term “JUGNO”. Up to the present this place still bears this name.

The Barangay observes its annual fiesta every 13th day of May, the Patron Saint being the “Virgin sa Fatima”. Folks from this barangay who worked in other places, usually come home for the celebration. Jugno has a complete set of  elected officials under the leadership of a Barangay Captain and seven (7) councilmen or “kagawad”. Majority of the residents derive their income from small scale farming and some from fishing aside for those who are employed in private and public institutions. Generally, they grow coconut, corn and sugarcane which contributed to the economic growth of the municipality.

AMLAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL - JUGNO CAMPUS is the highest learning institution located in the barangay, it was in school year 2011-2012 when the school started to operate. It used to occupy the vacant rooms of Aurelio Ibero Memorial Elementary School (AIMES). Nonetheless,  year 2013, under the Administration of Hon. Mayor Bentham P. Dela Cruz, Amlan Municipal Mayor, a 5,000 square meter lot was purchased and a two (2) unit Building with two (2) classrooms per building was constructed. By July 18, 2013 the school site was donated to the Department of Education which was signed by Hon. Mayor Bentham P. Dela Cruz and Sir Salustiano T. Jimenez-Schools Division Superintendent of the Province of Negros Oriental.
